Every year on the 5th of September, India celebrates Teacher's Day to honour the dedication, compassion, and lifelong contribution of teachers. It is a day that reminds us of the immense role educators play in shaping young minds, nurturing confidence, and guiding children towards a brighter future. Teachers do far more than complete lessons in classrooms - they inspire curiosity, encourage dreams, and help children discover their potential.
As rightly said by Alexandra K. Trenfor, “The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see.” A good teacher empowers children to think independently, ask questions, and become responsible members of society.
For most children, the journey of learning begins in school. However, for millions of underprivileged and street children across India, access to education remains a distant dream. Many children are forced to survive on the streets, work in unsafe conditions, or struggle daily for food, shelter, and protection. Without education and guidance, they become increasingly vulnerable to exploitation, child labour, substance abuse, violence, trafficking, and long-term poverty.
This is where the importance of teachers and education becomes even more powerful.
Education is not only about reading and writing - it is about restoring dignity, building confidence, and creating opportunities. A child who receives education gains the ability to make informed decisions, communicate effectively, and envision a future beyond hardship. Teachers become mentors who introduce discipline, empathy, logical thinking, and emotional strength into a child’s life.
At The Third Eye Foundation, we strongly believe that every child deserves the right to learn, dream, and grow in a safe environment. Our mission is focused on uplifting underprivileged and street-connected children through education, care, and long-term rehabilitation initiatives. Through our community-driven programs, we aim to bridge the gap between vulnerable children and quality education.
Our initiatives support children by providing:
According to multiple child welfare studies in India, thousands of children living on the streets either drop out of school early or never get the opportunity to enrol at all. Lack of financial support, unstable living conditions, and social neglect continue to push children away from classrooms. Yet, education remains one of the most effective tools to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion.
This Teacher’s Day, let us go beyond celebrations and take a meaningful step towards change. Honouring teachers should also mean ensuring that every child has the opportunity to meet one, learn from one, and build a future through education.
By supporting educational initiatives for street children, we are not only helping children attend school — we are helping them reclaim their childhood, dignity, and hope.
Join The Third Eye Foundation in our mission to empower vulnerable children through education and compassion. Together, we can create a society where no child is left behind and every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
